Sterlite Unveils $6 Billion Plan for Green Hydrogen Power Grid in Egypt

Sterlite Power plans to invest $5-6 billion in Egypt to build a dedicated electricity grid for green hydrogen projects, reinforcing the country’s renewable energy growth and strengthening its power infrastructure.
Egypt is actively attracting foreign investments to bolster its electricity grid and accelerate its transition to clean energy. In a recent official visit to India, Egypt's Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Hassan El Khatib, met with Tushar Chhabra, Head of Business Acquisition at Sterlite Power, to discuss potential collaboration aimed at improving Egypt’s power transmission network and supporting its clean energy transition.
El Khatib highlighted that Sterlite Power’s interest signals growing investor confidence in Egypt’s renewable energy market. The proposed green hydrogen project will enhance the electricity grid, attract further foreign investment, and create new job opportunities, all while supporting Egypt’s long-term sustainability goals.
Chhabra emphasized that Sterlite Power sees Egypt as a crucial market for expanding its renewable energy footprint, particularly in green hydrogen. With global expertise in developing power transmission networks, Sterlite Power plans to bring advanced technologies to ensure the efficiency and sustainability of the project.
Additionally, Egypt’s government has engaged with international investors to grow its green energy sector, such as the $4.2 billion agreement signed in December 2022 between OCIOR Energy and the Egyptian government to develop a green ammonia production project in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. This initiative aims to boost Egypt’s position in the global renewable energy market and support its clean energy goals.
As Egypt continues to advance its clean energy transition, it is attracting significant investments from companies like Sterlite Power, ensuring a reliable power supply for future green hydrogen projects and supporting the country’s broader energy objectives.
